Create your own Zombie Outfit
Making your own zombie outfit for next Halloween can be an interesting experience. It's relatively
simple to accomplish as well. It just takes a little brain power and research to get the process started and your
wheels turning. If you are making or buying a zombie costume, you are likely a fan of those scary
and often campy zombie movies. Here are a few, both scary and goofy:
- Night of the Living Dead
- Dawn of the Dead
- Army of Darkness
- 28 Days Later
- Resident Evil
- Shaun of the Dead
Creating your own zombie costume can sometimes be the way to go. It is normally easier on the pocket
book and you can have a little but of fun as well, customizing it all you want for a more dreaded,
undead zombie appearance. Zombie outfits that you can buy at a store aren't bad but often times you can get
into other Haloween goes who are wearing the same outfit and overall you feel a lack of individuality.
Here are a few scary suggestions that can aid you in perfecting your zombie outfit. The things you'll need
material wise:
- big, worn out/in clothing
- soldier's outfit
- doctor's coat
- a chef's gear
- a fake policeman's uniform
Essential Zombie costume building materials include:
- paint
- make up
- glue
- tape
- needle
- thread
- newspaper
- scissors
- dried leaves
- hair gel
You can buy inexpensive, used clothing at your local thrift store, such as Goodwill if you don't have any laying around to use for your zombie costume. Check out

Making your Zombie Outfit, Steps:
- Cut and tear down the edges of your old
worn out clothes to make it messy and scary.
- add holes to certain parts for an added effect
Shrivel the sleeves, pants and tatter the shoes if you want.
- Design your outfit with paint and dirty it up to make it more authentic.
- Add bloodstains and dried leaves on the pockets, sleeves and collar.
- Use the glue and newspaper to make paper maches of fake body parts that you can sew on to the costume for a
grosser effect.
- Be as creative as possible in designing your outfit; the creepier, the better.
Now, apply the make up all over your face, neck, arms, legs, and any part of your body where your skin is
showing. You can use shades of black and white, blue and grey, and red and violet, for a more bone chilling effect.
You can also add stitches and bruises on your skin by using make up. Apply generous red paint on fake wounds to
make it ickier. You can also add certain accessories, depending on your zombie personality: Hand cuffs for
policemen, pompoms for cheerleaders, stethoscope for a doctor, syringe for a nurse, and the likes. Do not limit
your creativity in creating your zombie outfit, go with what you feel.
When you're all done, then there is nothing left to do but to scare the life out of your friends and family. It
is more exciting if you can make your costume with a friend or loved one. Maybe you can make more than one and
share it with a friend or family member. Holidays are best spent with your friends and family. What I most love
about Halloween is its playfulness. You get to live out your fantasies and dreams, all in one magical but scary
night. Whether it be Halloween, Valentines, Independence Day, a birthday, or Christmas, costumes are a fun way to
express the special occasion. But of course, you can only wear that Zombie outfit on Halloween.
