How to Make a 3D Halloween Poster
Halloween can be great fun for kids. Not only do they get to wear costumes and get free candy, but they can also
make Halloween projects. This can be anything from home decorations to costumes, but read on to learn how to make a
creepy, eye-catching Halloween poster.
A poster is meant to grab attention, and a Halloween poster should be no different. For something different, you
can try making a three dimensional Halloween poster. People will be surprised and startled by the creepy, three
dimensional effect. The goal in this project is to create three dimensional images that appear to be trying to
escape from your poster. You can also add other subtle effects like drop shadows glitters for a more striking
poster.
The first thing you should do is select the images you want to be included in the poster. This can be anything,
from bats, ghouls and vampires to witches, zombies and werewolves. You can use magazine cut-outs or old Halloween
posters. If you want to use a digital image that you found online, you can open the image in Photoshop to remove
the background. Try to remove the background as neatly as possible since this can add to the 3D effect greatly.
Lay out a piece of black poster paper on a table or on the floor. You can use cardboard or foam poster paper,
depending on what material you want to work with. Take a pencil and begin roughly sketching the poster elements on
the poster paper. The sketches are only a temporary place holder for the final elements so you don't have to sketch
a lot of detail.
Take the images you cut out earlier and paste them on the front of some heavy construction paper. This will add
volume to the image. You should then take some square foam pieces and stick them on the back of the heavy
construction paper. This will help in the illusion of depth. Take a second image identical to the first and repeat
the steps above. You should then layer your image elements on the poster by sticking an element on and sticking
another element on top of it, but slightly off to either the left or the right.
You can then add some text on the Halloween poster like "Happy Halloween" or whatever message you want the poster
to say. Make sure that the letters of the text do not take emphasis away from the 3D image on the center of the
poster. You can then add other elements into the poster. This can include bushes, ghosts, creepy trees, a haunted
house, or some bolts of lightning. Take out some poster paint or oil pastel crayons and start adding accents to the
poster. You can also use some glitter glue for extra effect. If you do not have any glitter glue, you can just use
normal white glue. Smear some glue on the poster and add glitter powder before the glue dries.
