How to Make a Harry Potter Broom for your Halloween CostumeOnly a few months to go before the countdown to Halloween officially ends. Children always love dressing up for Halloween. They like the costumes and the decorations; but most of all, children love the free candy they get for dressing up. The Harry Potter fever has shaken the world time and time again. Children fall in love with the characters every time a new book or a new movie comes out. In recent years, more and more children dress up as one of the characters in Harry Potter during Halloween. The perfect accessory for a Harry Potter-inspired costume would be a Harry Potter broom. Although many toy stores sell Harry Potter brooms to go with the costumes, it can be quite costly. Making your own broom can save you a lot of money by using things you can find around the house. Making a Harry Potter broom can be really easy, and kids will have fun helping out. The materials you need to create your very own Harry Potter broom includes some sand paper, a few brown twigs, a long wooden stick, a used millet broom, silver or gold paint, varnish, and some dark wood stain. Take a long wooden stick and sand the sides of the stick to smoothen them out. After a good sanding, take out a paint brush and some dark wood stain. Use the paint brush to apply the stain to the wooden stick. Leave it to dry afterwards. After it dries, use another paint brush to apply your varnish. Do this in a well-ventilated area and make sure you or any children helping you do not breathe the fumes. Leave this to dry for a few hours. After the varnish is dry, apply some accents using gold or silver paints. This will make your broomstick look more authentic. Paint the words "Firebolt" on the side of the broom to make it look just like Harry's Firebolt. As an optional step, you can also sand the varnish with fine sandpaper and add another coat over it for an extra fine and glossy finish. Take some dried twigs and some rope and tie the twigs to the bottom of the broom to add volume. To add authenticity to your loo, you can also make a golden snitch by using a Styrofoam ball, some gold paint and a couple of small white feathers. Take your Styrofoam ball then paint it gold using some gold paint and a brush. You can also use a gold marker or, even better, some gold spray paint. Leave the Styrofoam ball to dry. After the ball is dry, take your feathers and attach it to the sides of your snitch. Now, all you need is some Harry Potter clothes to complete the effect. It would be even better if you dress up in Harry Potter's quidditch uniform. When making this prop, make sure that your children are supervised.
